In the 2009 European elections, the Fidesz-KDNP alliance gained an exceptional 56% of support (setting a new European record) from Hungarian citizens. This result allowed the Fidesz-KDNP coalition to send 14 out of 22 Hungarian candidates to Brussels as MEPs. Together with MEPs of Hungarian origin from Slovakia and Romania, however, the Hungarian EPP Group Delegation consists of 19 members. The delegation is therefore the 6th biggest national formation within the Group (following Germany, Italy, France, Poland and Spain).

This status made it possible to nominate a Hungarian MEP as one of the Vice-Presidents of the European Parliament. After Pál Schmitt, the first Hungarian EP Vice-President, returned home and was elected President of Hungary, László Tőkés (MEP from Romania) followed him in the function.

József Szájer has been working as Group Vice-Chairman since 2004, and is responsible for the Group's legislative work since 2009. Members of the Hungarian EPP Group Delegation have other notable positions in the EP, such as Committee Vice-Chairs (Tamás Deutsch, Kinga Gál, Ágnes Hankiss, and Lívia Járóka), Coordinator (Csaba Őry), Intergroup Chairs (Kinga Gál and Ádám Kósa) and other important functions in the group as well. The Head of the Hungarian EPP Group Delegation is MEP András Gyürk.

We're especially proud that, among the members of the Hungarian EPP Group Delegation, we find Lívia Járóka, the only MEP of Roma origin, and Ádám Kósa, the first and only deaf MEP. It is also of great honour that one of the EP buildings in Brussels was named after József Antall, the first freely-elected Hungarian Prime Minister after the fall of the communist regime, thereby creating the first building with the name of a politician from Central Europe.
